Can-Am Speedway Looking To Continue Building Go-Kart Program
LAFARGEVILLE, NY – Many of today’s Can-Am Speedway race car competitors, started their racing careers on the small go-kart track located behind the main grandstands at the LaFargeville facility. Over the years, some of Can-Am’s most successful racers took their first laps on Can-Am’s little dirt track.
In 2017, all but one track champion got their start in go-kart racing. In the 1990’s, there were over 100 kart entries in the pits on a weekly basis and while numbers have dropped off over the years, new Can-Am Speedway owner Tyler Bartlett is determined to make go-kart racing at Can-Am as popular as it once was.
The switch to Saturday nights for it’s go-kart program, should help bring more karts to LaFargeville for weekly competition. There are classes for all ages, ranging from Rookie’s as young as 5 years old to some racers that are still competing well into their 50’s and 60’s. The 2018 schedule will see some exciting changes with some special events planned and a 3 or 4 race summer series being put together, that will see racers compete for extra purse money.
The quickly approaching “Mall Show” at the Salmon Run Mall, will see the go-karts have a large presence and anyone interested in getting involved in kart racing is encouraged to stop and talk with Speedway officials and racers about the family fun sport of go-kart racing.
